AFI winner Emma Booth to attend Swerve premiere at CinefestOz

Press release from CinéfestOZ

CinéfestOZ Film Festival 2011 is pleased to announce that AFI-award winning actress and rising international star Emma Booth, is expected to attend the WA premiere of Swerve on Thursday 25 August.

In its fourth year, CinéfestOZ (24-28 August 2011) showcases the best of Australian and French independent film against a stunning South-west backdrop.

A tightly paced thriller by accomplished writer/director Craig Lahiff, Swerve tells the story of a fatal car accident in the middle of nowhere, which leaves a suitcase full of cash without a living owner.

Its WA premiere will be only the second screening in the country, following its Australian premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) this week.

According to CinéfestOZ vice-chairman and film programmer Helen Shervington, the screening was made possible through the festival’s relationship the MIFF Premiere Film Fund, which provides CinéfestOZ access to its new films.

“CinéfestOZ enjoys a beneficial relationship with MIFF which enables us to bring films to Western Australia that could otherwise take a year or more to get here.

“Swerve is such a film, and we are delighted that writer/director Craig Lahiff and producer Helen Leake are also able to join us to introduce the film and lead a post-screening question and answer session on the night,” said Shervington.

The event will be held in Margaret River – a first for the festival as the result of a new cultural partnership between CinéfestOZ and Arts Margaret River.

Extending the premiere to Margaret River enables more people to enjoy CinéfestOZ’s unique combination of outstanding Australian film, filmmaking talent and red-carpet atmosphere, which is the experience CinéfestOZ promises our filmgoers,” she said.

Swerve will premiere on Thursday 25 August at the Margaret River Cultural Centre – Wallcliffe Road, Margaret River. A red-carpet cocktail function will precede the film.

Tickets are $35 and can be booked online here. Alternatively purchase a Festival Gold pass to ensure you don’t miss any of the action.

Swerve is one of nine premieres being showcased at CinéfestOZ, with cast and crew also attending the red-carpet premieres of Birthday and Toomelah.
