Popcorn Taxi hosts screen icon Jerry Lewis

[Tue 22/09/2009 03:18:33]

Press Release from Popcorn Taxi

It was – literally – standing room only, as Popcorn Taxi (in association with Paramount Home Entertainment) presented a living legend, after an exclusive, sold-out screening of his most famous movie at Greater union, Bondi Junction.

To the delight of a packed house, the King of Comedy himself, Mr Jerry Lewis, joined us live on stage after his 1960s classic The Nutty Professor for an intimate and hugely entertaining Q&A.

The Hollywood star had the room in stitches as he discussed, in his own inimitable way, every aspect of his glittering career – which now spans well over half a century.

>From his friendship with the Kennedys – and his infamous split from stage partner Dean Martin – to his unique and groundbreaking work both behind and in front of the movie camera… Nothing was left to the imagination!

In addition, he revealed why the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation – which he has actively supported for over 60 years – means so much to him personally.

To top off a truly unforgettable night, Popcorn Taxi is delighted to announce that the event has raised a whopping $10,000 for The Muscular Dystrophy Foundation (MDF).

David Jack, CEO of MDF Australia, said today, "Jerry Lewis' appearance at the screening of The Nutty Professor was one of the highlights [of his visit to Australia].

Chris Murray, Creative Director of Popcorn Taxi, hosted the show and through his great rapport with Jerry, enabled the audience to enjoy a rare insight into Jerry's personality and accomplishments. I am particularly appreciative of the generosity of Popcorn Taxi and all involved in donating all proceeds to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation Australia."

All monies raised will go to help provide kids struck down with this incurable disease with muscle-responsive equipment, so that they can breathe more easily.

Jerry Lewis has, to date, raised over $2.5 billion for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation. Only a few short weeks ago, his 44th Annual Labor Day Telethon in the US added $65 million to that figure.

Since arriving in Sydney last week, Mr Lewis has hosted a number of events to help raise awareness for the foundation – and announced on Sunday night that he intends to bring his mammoth fundraiser to Australia in 2011.

Meanwhile, Popcorn Taxi is celebrating 10 years of bringing movie lovers closer to the movie makers, via exclusive live events.

Coming up next, on Monday September 28, in Sydney: The highly anticipated sci-fi thriller, Moon, with director Duncan Jones on the line from London! And to be announced shortly: Our exclusive live presentation of the 1970s Australian cult classic, Journey Among Women.
