Box Office boom

Press Release from Val Morgan

Over $337 million has been spent at the Australian Box Office so far this year, an increase of 13% year on year.

Top grossing movies year-to-date include The Hunger Games ($24m), Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows ($20m), Alvin and The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked ($19m), The Descendants ($15m), and 21 Jump Street ($13m).

Val Morgan CEO Damian Keogh said the year-to-date box office results reflect the strength of movie-going in Australia and the depth of movies on offer.

“2012 is off to a great start at the Box Office with the second highest quarter in Australian history and the ongoing outlook remains strong. There are titles screening that appeal to all ages and with these strong figures there has never been a better time for brands to capitalize on the unique impact and engagement of the cinema environment.”

The box office juggernaut looks set to continue rolling with a phenomenal line-up of movies set to hit screens in the next few months, including The Avengers, Men In Black 3, The Dark Knight Rises, Five Year Engagement, Ice Age 4 and many others.
