Frackman the movie coming to WA

Frackman the Movie is headed to cinemas across Western Australia for a special rural roadshow kicking off in Margaret River this Saturday 16 May and wrapping in Broome on Monday 1 June, following sell-out screenings in NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

Special screenings will take place across the state in Albany, Balingup, Busselton, Bunbury, Perth, Jurien Bay, Geraldton, Derby and Fitzroy Crossing.

Frackman tells the story of accidental activist Dayne ‘Frackman’ Pratzky and a group of ordinary Queenslanders as they battle against the $70 billion unconventional gas industry.

The observational documentary, directed and produced by Margaret River filmmaker, Richard Todd, follows Pratzky’s five-year battle against the Queensland Gas Company after they demand to sink gas wells on his property.

The David and Goliath battle includes triumph, tragedy, love and conflict as Pratzky and his neighbours face off against the gas company and the coal seam gas industry.

A large swathe of Australia is now covered by unconventional gas exploration licenses or applications. The documentary seeks to spark a statewide conversation about the risks of fracking and of WA rushing headlong into the development of a massive shale and tight gas industry.

“On one side of the debate, the industry is saying that the extraction of gas is safe, it creates jobs and is needed for the State. On the other side of the fence, communities and farmers are worried about health issues, water, soil and air contamination. Come along and make up your own mind after you have seen Dayne ‘the Frackman's’ story.” said Director, Richard Todd.

Frackman is touring Western Australia using the innovative, new cinema-on-demand model, TUGG, which allows filmmakers to interact directly with audiences and arrange screenings at participating cinemas across the country.

Cinema-on-demand is similar to crowd funding as it allows the audience to determine whether or not a screening takes place. Each Frackman screening will only be confirmed once a certain number of “threshold” tickets have been sold.

The filmmakers encourage all Western Australians to buy their tickets as soon as possible to ensure that all Frackman screenings are confirmed and as many Western Australians as possible are able to see the film!

Most WA screenings will also feature a special Q&A with Director Richard Todd and VIP guest, Frackman himself, Dayne Pratzky.
