Hicks feature set for hometown premiere

Press release from Hopscotch

The Australian Premiere of Scott Hicks’ highly anticipated THE BOYS ARE BACK will take place at the Piccadilly Cinema in North Adelaide on 2 November 2009. It is fitting that the premiere is held in Adelaide as it is the hometown of Scott Hicks and the film was shot in and around the city and the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Starring Clive Owen, Erik Thomson, Emma Booth, George MacKay and Julia Blake and introducing Nicholas McAnulty, THE BOYS ARE BACK will be released nationally in Australia on 12 November 2009.

The film recently received its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival and received a standing ovation from the crowd with Rolling Stone commenting "Director Scott Hicks does his best work since the Oscar-nominated Shine.

Be ready: This movie will take a piece out of you” and Screen International commenting that the film is “a sensitive, expertly crafted exploration of the bond between a father and his sons. It has the same understanding of male emotions as a Nick Hornby bestseller”.

Scott Hicks, the director of THE BOYS ARE BACK comments: “Having the Australian premiere in Adelaide is a thank-you gift to South Australia. I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to shoot a major film at home again.”

Troy Lum, Managing Director of Hopscotch Films comments: “This is a film that South Australia has much to be proud of; it is much like the area it portrays – beautiful and magical. Combine this with the key local talent involved and there is really only one place where we could premiere this film in Australia.”
