Hoodlum finds a US partner

Tracey Robertson and Nathan Mayfield’s Hoodlum has found a powerful new ally in ITV Studios America.

The Secrets & Lies producer has signed a first-look deal for scripted series in the US with the US arm of the UK's biggest production and distribution company and will be based in its Los Angeles offices.

The 10-part remake of Secrets & Lies, which stars Ryan Phillippe, Juliette Lewis, KaDee Strickland, Aussie Indiana Evans and Belle Shouse, is screening on the ABC network.

NBC has commissioned a pilot adapted from Hoodlum’s The Strange Calls, which will star Danny Pudi as a young cop who is transferred to a a rural town where, with the help of an elderly nightwatchman (Daniel Stern), he realizes the town has a bizarre supernatural underbelly.

Hoodlum already had a relationship with the UK broadcaster, having created an online channel for its soap Emmerdale and Primeval Evolved, an online extension of the stories, world and characters of Primeval season 3, which won an International Emmy.

ITV Studios America president Orly Adelson said, “As our scripted content and production business continues to grow, we want to partner with the best storytellers from around the world to bring their ideas to an American audience.

“Hoodlum has a wide range of international experience with impressive accomplishments already in Australia, the UK and the US and we are excited to continue building on that great work with Tracey, Nathan and the team here in America."

Robertson said, “Hoodlum is excited to be partnering with such an internationally recognized studio that produces such a wide variety of innovative and entertaining content for the global market."

The arrangement signals ITV Studios America’s increasing emphasis on drama after hiring Lucienne Papon as senior VP for scripted TV in February.

Its slate includes NBC's 13-episode Aquarius, which stars David Duchovny as the LA cop whose investigation into a missing persons case led to Charles Manson, and History's Texas Rising, a miniseries which chronicles the Texas Revolution against Mexico and the rise of the Texas Rangers.
