Leads cast in The Slap remake

Peter Sarsgaard and Mary-Louise Parker will star in NBC’s eight-hour remake of Matchbox Pictures’ The Slap.

Sarsgaard will play Hector, a guy who loves his wife and family but is tempted by his wife’s teenage receptionist at a party where his cousin slaps a child.

Parker will play Anouk, a close friend of Hector’s who’s the head writer on a TV show. Jonathan LaPaglia and Essie Davis played those roles in the original.

Matchbox Pictures and Universal Television are producing the US version adapted by Brothers & Sisters creator Jon Robin Baitz for NBC.

Lisa Cholodenko will direct the first two hours. The executive producers are Baitz, Matchbox’s Tony Ayres, Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Ted Gold.

Sarsgaard has just finished shooting Warner Bros.’ gangster drama Black Mass with Johnny Depp, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson and Joel Edgerton.

Parker has landed a recurring role in the second season of The Blacklist as a woman who hides a dark secret from her husband.
