Matt King joins Oz production company

UK actor, comedian and writer Matt King today embarked on a new career with Australian production company CJZ.

As the newly appointed development executive King will work with CJZ’s development and production teams.

King collaborated with CJZ MD co-founder Nick Murray in Australia in the 1990s when he served as a comedy writer on Full Frontal and Jimeoin.

Before moving back to Australia with his family last month he filmed a role in Paddington, a comedy about a young bear from Peru who moves to London in search of a home and family, starring Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth, Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins and Jim Broadbent, directed by David Heyman (producer of the Harry Potter franchise and Gravity).

He played the co-lead opposite Claudia Karvan in Southern Star Entertainment’s Spirited in 2011. He also appeared as the cult character Super Hans in the Channel 4 comedy Peep Show and in the British films Made in Dagenham, Bronson and RocknRolla.

King said, “I’m passionate about creating original ideas and have been very fortunate to have written, produced and performed in several successful TV and film projects over the past 15 years. I have also worked with some hugely creative people and credit those people who encouraged me when I was first starting out.

“Nick Murray was one of these people so to have the opportunity to work alongside him and the team at CJZ is incredibly exciting. I look forward to developing new projects for both the local and international markets at a time when I feel Australian television is entering an exciting new era.”

Murray said, “It's great to be working with Matt again. His skills on both sides of the camera will bring a unique perspective to our creative team and he will play a key role in our development and production projects. There are exciting times ahead in local production and real opportunities in Australian-UK co-productions."
