New Chaser show to start production this week

Comedy team The Chaser is returning to the ABC, with a new show set to go into production this week.

Dubbed The Hamster Wheel, the eight-part series will examine the contemporary media landscape.

"I just can't wait to get my hands on the ABC credit card again," said Executive Producer Julian Morrow in a statement. "When it comes to dodgy uses of other people's money, Craig Thomson's got nothing on The Chaser team."

The Chaser were last seen on ABC in 2009, when their series The Chaser's War on Everything was cut short following their controversial 'Make-a-realistic-wish' sketch.

They were set to return earlier this year to provide commentary on the royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, but were forced to cancel after Clarence House enforced restrictions which stipulated that the broadcast could not be used satirical purposes.

The Hamster Wheel is produced by Giant Dward Pty. Ltd in association with ABC TV and will air later this year.
