ACTA demands Logies accept Bazura Project

[Tue 10/03/2009 06:18:45]

[press release from TVS]

The Australian Community Television Alliance (ACTA) today called on the organisers of the TV Week Logies to allow the highly acclaimed Community Television program The Bazura Project to compete for the award for Outstanding Comedy Show.

As reported on Media Watch last night efforts by the program's producers to be allowed to submit an entry for the Logies have been rejected despite the fact that The Bazura Project clearly meets the published criteria for entry.

"At a time when there are continuing calls for increased local content on Australian television we believe that this decision is unfair and unreasonable," said Laurie Patton, ACTA spokesman and CEO of TVS (Television Sydney).

Community Television provides a new and much needed outlet for emerging talent and the stars and the producers of The Bazura Project deserve to be recognised for their enthusiasm and their commitment to innovative TV, according to ACTA.

"Where will we find the next Rove, the next Corinne Grant, the next Hamish and Andy - all of whom got their start on Community Television - if we don't encourage people to have a go and if we don't recognise them in the most important industry awards?" Mr Patton added.
