Caught Short screens two SFS films

[Mon 29/06/2009 07:07:48]

Press release from Sydney Film School

Dedicated to offering support to independent short film filmmakers the Caught Short Film Festival continues its screenings of selected Australian shorts. On July 2nd the Tap Gallery in Darlinghurst will screen a collection of shorts stamped with a diversity of topics including two Sydney Film School student films.

'You Can Count to Ten' by Stephanie Bridger and ‘Chasing Mel' by Peter Ireland are two of four documentaries selected to screen at next month’s Caught Short’s Film Night.

'You Can Count to Ten' is an account of a new art movement spreading through Australia. Part doco, part collage, Stephanie Bridger’s inspiring film is an upbeat insight into a growing phenomenon.

In 'Chasing Mel' Pete Ireland delves deep into his family history in an effort to prove (or disprove) the old family legend that they share blood with internationally renowned actor Mel Gibson.

The two short documentaries produced in 2008 at Sydney Film School as Part 1 documentary projects will screen together with George Giampietri’s 'Will to Forget', a dark and funny tale about a couple of party prone kids who accidentally spike a Jehovah’s Witness’ coffee with cocaine and Matthew Graham’s 'Billy', a wonderfully warm and funny portrayal of a typical family conundrum – how to answer the big questions of little kids.

Supported by the City of Sydney, on the first Thursday of each month at the TAP Gallery in Sydney’s Darlinghurst, Caught Short film festival screens a selection of short films of different genres and subject matter.

The Caught Short screenings are intimate and inclusive. The TAP Gallery is a community arts space and provides the perfect place for filmmakers to become accustomed to public screenings, whilst networking and getting involved in valuable discussion with an audience and other filmmakers, artists, actors, festival organisers and many more.

The next Caught Short Film Night will be held on Thursday 2nd July from 7.45pm at the Tap Gallery, 278 Palmer St (just off Oxford St), Darlinghurst.

Caught Short invites you to join a pre-screening bevie and grill the filmmakers in the Q&A sessions!
