Crazy partying heralds Optus Top Ten
[Mon 17/11/2008 05:56:04]
[press release from MTV]
Optus, MTV Networks Australia and LG Mobile Phones are excited to announce the Top 10 entries, in the 2008/2009 OPTUS ONE80PROJECT. The pilots will be celebrated at a ‘Top 10 Screening Party’ held at MTV’s Sydney Headquarters on Thursday November 20.
The initiative is also thrilled to announce Paramount Pictures Australia’s, Managing Director, Michael Selwyn as the latest judge to come onboard the project. Selwyn will join Sibylla Budd, Marcus Graham and Ben Briand as they pick the ‘Judges Choice’ winning entry, which will be made into full-length drama production shown on MTV Australia.
A second winner will also be chosen by a public vote via SMS and website voting (www.one80project.com.au). The Top 10 finalist’s entries can be viewed on the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT website (www.one80project.com.au) and via the Optus ZOO mobile portal.
Michael Selwyn brings with him over three decades of experience in film distribution. Selwyn has worked with some of the world’s top film distribution houses and in 1993 became the General Manager of UIP in Australia. In 2006, UIP became Paramount Pictures Australia, (a Viacom sister company to MTV Networks Australia) with Selwyn continuing as Managing Director (Australia).
“I am delighted to be associated with the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT.” said Michael Selwyn, Managing Director, Paramount Pictures Australia. “This initiative offers such a great opportunity to creators of new Australian dramas.”
This year’s Top 10 came from all around the country and the quality and diversity of ideas were exceptional. Each entry conveyed concepts and ideas that fit the brief and requirements for a one hour television drama.
OPTUS ONE80PROJECT offers a chance of a lifetime to the Top 10 entrants. Entrant’s submitted a three minute pilot (180 seconds) with an accompanying treatment for a one hour television drama. MTV Executives then selected the top entries to be voted on by the panel of industry judges and the public.
