Mardi Gras win prompts actor to think big

Popular Australian actor and rising star Palmer Marchese has announced he is leaving Network Ten’s Toasted TV series to pursue more serious film and television roles, following the success of his recent lead in an award-winning short film.
The 19-year-old performer gained national attention last year when he won a national viewer vote to co-host Australia’s number one cartoon program. The experience provided Palmer with incredible industry insight and hands-on production experience which whet his appetite to pursue broader roles.
His departure will be announced during tomorrow’s Toasted TV episode, but there will be little time for Palmer to relax – he has already found himself in hot demand.
Buzz is quickly surrounding this highly trained and versatile performer, after his lead role in the short film Spokes – directed by Peter Ireland – which took out an award at last week’s Mardi Gras Film Festival.
Palmer plays the isolated and love-struck main character, but it is his voiceover of an animated French ant that has dazzled audiences at recent screenings.
“This role was very different to the majority of characters I have played, and it provided the opportunity to work in the complex area of animation. It was great to be able to extend myself and demonstrate my diversity as an actor.”
Spokes is expected to feature strongly in the international festival circuit. It will also enjoy national distribution from April as part of a travelling festival.
Palmer thanked his fans for their support during his time on Toasted TV and hopes they will join him on the next leg of his professional journey. “Leaving the show was a really tough decision to make, but I am excited by the future and the promising discussions I’ve had with prominent casting agents and directors,” Palmer said.
A number of high-profile roles and projects are in the pipeline, but Palmer is staying mum until the contract ink is dry – so watch this space. “I am really looking forward to the year ahead. I can’t say too much at the moment, but there are big things on the cards and I can’t wait,” he said.
