Skyfall romps it in at Australian box office

The latest Bond instalment, Skyfall, dominated the box office over the weekend, raking in a massive $ 12,304,513.

Debuting at #1 on 595 screens, Skyfall opened in Australia on November 22 and has outperformed the opening weekend of Quantum of Solace by an impressive 84%.

This makes Skyfall the biggest opening ever for a Bond film in Australia and the biggest opening weekend of all time for Sony Pictures Releasing Australia.

This box office success has placed Skyfall in the top 20 openings of all time, ahead of Avatar (LC$11.99 mill) and Twilight Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (LC$12.1mill.)

However it failed to break through the records set by The Avengers (LC$13.28mill) and Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 (LC $12.49mill.)

Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes, sees Daniel Craig back in the role of 007.

It is the 23rd instalment of what is the longest running film franchise of all time.
