Son of a Gun to make Australian premiere at CinéfestOZ

PRESS RELEASE

This year’s CinéfestOZ is set to go off with a bang at the Australian premiere of the much-anticipated edge-of-your-seat heist thriller SON OF A GUN.

SON OF A GUN is the feature debut of award-winning Australian director Julius Avery (Jerrycan) and stars Ewan McGregor, Brenton Thwaites, Alicia Vikander and Nash Edgerton.

The film – shot in Western Australia – centres on 19-year-old JR (Thwaites) who, locked up, finds himself under the protection of Australia’s public enemy number one, Brendon Lynch (McGregor). But protection comes at a price. Lynch’s crew have plans for their young protégé and very soon the debt is called in.

SON OF A GUN is one of six finalists in the running for CinéfestOZ’s inaugural $100,000 Film Prize – awarded to the producer of an Australian feature film or feature-length documentary – and is the official opening night film of the festival.

Avery and Edgerton, along with producer Tim White and co-producer Janelle Landers, will walk the CinéfestOZ red carpet ahead of the Australian premiere of the film on Wednesday, 20th August at Orana Cinemas, Busselton.

“We are extremely delighted to have the honour of screening SON OF A GUN for the first time anywhere in Australia at CinéfestOZ,” CinéfestOZ CEO Malinda Nixon said.

“There is a great deal of excitement around the film and we envisage tickets will sell out quickly so we advise everyone to book theirs early.”

CinéfestOZ runs from 20th – 24th August in Busselton, Bunbury, Margaret River and Augusta, Western Australia.

Feature films, along with an exciting program of short films, documentaries, industry workshops and related events occur throughout the South West of Western Australia as part of the festival.

CinéfestOZ is supported by the State Government through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program, which is funded by Royalties for Regions. The festival acknowledges its strong partnership with ScreenWest, Western Australia's screen funding and development agency.
