The Bastard Executioner hits Aussie screens

Blood-soaked medieval drama The Bastard Executioner is now available on streaming service Presto.

The Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy) special event series unfolds during a time rife with rebellion and political upheaval.

Set in 14th century Northern Wales, The Bastard Executioner tells the the story of Wilkin Brattle (Lee Jones), a warrior whose life is forever changed when a divine messenger implores him to set aside his sword and lead the life of another man: a journeyman executioner.

Brattle walks a tight rope between protecting his true identity while also serving his mysterious destiny.

Brattle is guided by a mystical healer named Annora (Katy Sagal).

In addition to being under Annora's control, Brattle is manipulated by Milus Corbett (Stephen Moyer), a devious Chamberlain with political aspirations.

Brattle traverses political and emotional pitfalls on his way to understanding his greater purpose – all while being driven by an increasing romantic connection with Baroness Lady Love Ventris (Flora Spencer-Longhurst ‘Leonardo’).

Presto chief executive, Shaun James, said The Bastard Executioner was not for the faint-hearted.

"But it is just the kind of intriguing drama that will draw in TV lovers, eager to get their fill of treachery and 14th century political plotting. We’re delighted to bring this medieval drama exclusive to Presto,” he said.

The Bastard Executioner also features series regulars Kurt Sutter, Sam Spruell, Darren Evans, Danny Sapani, Timothy V. Murphy, Sarah White, Sarah Sweeney, Elen Rhys, Ethan Griffiths and guest star Matthew Rhys.

The series was created by Sutter, who will serve as executive producer along with producers Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo and Paris Barclay.
