Torrens University launches Bachelor of Media Design

Torrens University Australia has partnered with New Zealand’s Media Design School to launch a Bachelor of Media Design.

The program will give budding designers the opportunity to acquire a broad body of knowledge in the highly competitive field along with significant specialist knowledge and a readiness for industry.

“Media Design School is New Zealand’s most awarded provider of specialised qualifications in digital and emerging creative technology. Its collaboration with Torrens on this exciting new program will benefit the University and its students through knowledge sharing, its tried and tested immersive learning model and highly regarded curriculum,” said Professor Fred McDougall, Vice-Chancellor, Torrens University Australia.

Industry experts have been involved in shaping the curriculum and will remain constantly engaged to guarantee the latest skills are being taught and that students have the opportunity to work on ‘live’ briefs.

This stems from a firm belief that graduates should be able to add value to an employer from the moment they step into their new role.

"Design isn’t simply about creativity, but about client collaboration and delivering positive returns for enterprise. Our programs ensure students develop a focus – and expertise – not just in professional design skills but in the business of design and articulating its value to business’ broader strategy,” added McDougall.

• Torrens University Australia is now accepting applications for commencement in January 2015.
• Full and partial scholarships – based on merit – will be available to undergraduate students enrolling in January 2015.
• The program uses the project-based learning (PBL) approach through applied and practical projects that replicate the demands of the industry.
• Students work towards creating a final project for their portfolio, which demonstrates depth, originality and meets or exceeds the expectations of potential clients.
• Theoretical and contextual studies are also fundamental to the curriculum in order to ensure graduates are agile and primed for entry into the industry.
• Students will spend a study period at one of the Laureate International Universities partner institutions overseas where they will gain a global and intercultural context to learning. Airfares, health insurance and tuition fees at the overseas institution will be covered in the overall tuition fee.
