Queenslanders attend AIDC conference

[press release from the PFTC]

A group of eleven Queensland documentary makers will attend the 2009 Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) in Adelaide this week.

For the next three days, industry delegates from around the world will attend master classes, discussion panels, networking events and pitching competitions at Adelaide’s Hilton Hotel.

This year’s program is focussed on audience viewing patterns, the art and craft of documentary making and interactive platforms.

"As Queensland’s screen industry continues to prosper, I am particularly thrilled to see the local documentary sector thriving," Pacific Film and Television Commission’s Head of Production Henry Tefay said.

"Our factual filmmakers are consistently producing fascinating content with strong market demand in a highly competitive industry.

"A raft of highly successful documentaries has been produced in just the last 12 months including Rare Chicken Rescue, Roller Girls,, Chopper Rescue, The Glamour Game and Salt, which premieres here on Friday night as part of the Adelaide Film Festival.

"The PFTC’s Interstate Marketing Scheme enables filmmakers to attend industry events like the AIDC to learn world’s best practice, pitch their ideas and build relationships from which lucrative distribution outcomes can be leveraged.

"Queensland delegates at the AIDC can mix with industry peers, financiers, influential content buyers and network executives, gain access to valuable skills and insight into growing viable production companies here at home."

The Queensland contingent attending AIDC in 2009 is made up of: Brett Shorthouse (Digital Dimensions), Phoebe Hart, Daryl Sparkes (Mianjin Entertainment), James Lingwood (Lingwood Productions), Larry Zetlin (Gulliver Media), Faramarz K-Rahber, Michael Angus, Gillian Norman (Avante Films) and Fury Productions’ Veronica Fury, Melissa Hines and Glen Bernauer.

Mr Tefay will accompany the Queensland delegates to the conference.

The PFTC is a sponsor of the AIDC.
