The prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University has entered into a three-year partnership with the Australian Film Television and Radio School, to send students to study in AFTRS Foundation Diploma.

This is the first partnership of its kind that Tisch have undertaken in Australia, and recognises the level of innovative and groundbreaking education AFTRS is renowned for.

Sandra Levy, AFTRS CEO says “There is a great synergy between AFTRS and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts – the premier centre for the study of performing and cinematic arts in the United States – and we are looking forward to building greater creative and educational links with our American counterpart.”

The Executive Director of Special Programs at Tisch, Annie Stanton says “We consider AFTRS’ Foundation Diploma to be highly progressive and this new partnership will provide an international, intensive, educational experience for Tisch students and reciprocal cultural benefits for both Schools.”

The Tisch students will study the ‘Emotional Noise’ component of the course, exploring the underlying relationships between sound-design, music, radio, visual image and emotion. This unique course is an innovative way for students to understand the impact of the sound on the senses.

The participating students come from the Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television and will attend AFTRS for a period of three weeks, to study in the Foundation Diploma, which is a unique course that has been designed for students to learn about the specialisations that make up all screen arts production activities across all platforms. Unique in their focus, these modules encourage a creative and versatile approach to a career in visual story telling.

Catherine Gleeson, Head of Foundation at AFTRS has been instrumental in facilitating this beneficial relationship. This initial visit is the starting point for further collaboration between the schools, as AFTRS and Tisch NYU look to strengthen their ties to deliver the most unique and relevant opportunities for their students on the world stage.
