AIDC announces successful MeetMarket participants

Press release from AIDC

MeetMarket brings together selected documentary filmmakers with national and international executive producers, broadcasters and distributors who are attending the 2012 Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC).

AIDC received over 70 entries competing to participate in MeetMarket 2012. An independent international selection committee selected 21 successful projects by Australian and New Zealand filmmakers. Of the Australian projects, four come from NSW, four from South Australia, nine from Victoria, one from Western Australia and one from the ACT. Two projects were selected from New Zealand

AIDC Executive Director, Joost den Hartog says, “We are very happy with this year’s slate of MeetMarket projects which include works in development by seasoned and emerging filmmakers.”

Screen Australia Chief Executive Ruth Harley says, "MeetMarket provides a unique chance for documentary filmmakers with projects in development to meet with potential buyers. Screen Australia is proud to again be partnering with AIDC to deliver this opportunity and we congratulate all those selected to participate this year.”

Producers, broadcasters and distributors from the documentary industry will watch pitch teasers of the 21 projects and choose ones they wish to discuss further in one-on-one meetings with the filmmakers at AIDC. These meetings provide the opportunity for creative ideas to be fast-tracked within a supportive and structured setting.

This year, AIDC has introduced Real Contact, a new initiative to support the development of projects considered to be of a high potential but missed out on being selected for MeetMarket. Julia Overton as facilitator with other industry professionals will present a workshop designed to assist invited participants identify pathways to maximize opportunities for finance from the funding bodies to take their projects to the next level.
