American Greetings Properties acquires rights to the WotWots TV show

Entertainment company American Greetings Properties (AGP) has acquired the licensing and merchandising rights to popular pre-school TV show the WotWots.

AGP, which also licenses brands such as Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears, will now develop a licensing program around the WotWots brand that will initially focus on merchandise categories including apparel, publishing, back-to-school, home décor and home textiles.

“We look forward to building an exciting licensing program for children that brings to life these lovable characters and helps further encourage the brand’s core values of kindness and cooperation,” AGP vice president of global licensing, Carla Silva, said in a statement.

The WotWots, which is shown on ABC2 in Australia and The Hub in the US, follows the adventures of two alien siblings, SpottyWot and DottyWot, who come to Earth to explore the diversity of life on the blue planet.

The series was created by Academy Award-winning Weta Workshop (Lord of the Rings) and production company Pukeko Pictures.

"This international licensing and merchandising deal will ensure the continued growth of the brand and its success in reaching and being accessible to pre-schoolers,” Weta co-founder Sir Richard Taylor said.

The WotWots is also airing internationally on Treehouse in Canada, First T.V in the UK, as well as Korea, the Middle East and Poland.
