This year's Gold Coast Film Festival presented by Australia Fair Shopping Centre will feature a special Anime Showcase co presented by the Multicultural Communities Council Gold Coast which includes screenings of new release anime films and free anime seminars and demonstrations.
Filmmakers Noritaka Kawaguchi (5cm Per Second), Jun Awazu (Planzet) and Ushio Tazawa (The Place Promised in Our Early Days) will attend this year's festival as special guests and will be giving free anime workshops on Thursday 11 November at the Robina Community Centre. Topics will include Creating a Feature Film in the Anime Style, The Importance of Creating Culturally Relevant Anime and Tricks of the Trade: Animation Industry Secrets. The seminars will be free of charge thanks to the Regional Arts Development Fund. Interested participants are encouraged to register their interest at www.gcfilmfestival.com. Spaces are limited.

Noritaka Kawaguchi is a producer of Japanese animation films and the CEO of CoMix Wave Films Incorporated which produces animated feature films by Makoto Shinkai (The Place Promised in Our Early Days), Jun Awazu and other animation directors. The last time Kawaguchi was on the Gold Coast he won the inaugural Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2007 for 5 Centimetres Per Second, of which there will be a be screening of at this year's GCFF.

Anime Films screening in this year's film festival at Birch Carroll & Coyle Australia Fair Cinemas include the multi award winning Summer Wars, Redline, Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance, King of Thorn and more to be announced closer to the event. Tickets can be pre purchased online from mid October when the entire program goes live.
The Gold Coast Film Festival presented by Australia Fair Shopping Centre, will be held November 10 – 16 at Australia Fair Birch Carroll and Coyle Cinemas in Southport. Gold Coast City Council's Film Gold Coast is the major Government sponsor of the event. The full program of films and events will be launched in October.
