Ashleigh Cummings in ‘Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.’
Hounds of Love star Ashleigh Cummings has landed the co-lead in AMC’s supernatural horror drama NOS4A2 after making her Hollywood film debut in John Crowley’s The Goldfinch.
She is playing Vic McQueen, a young, working class artist who discovers she has a supernatural ability in the series based on the novel of the same name by Joe Hill.
Her character uses those powers to track the seemingly immortal Charlie Manx (Zachary Quinto), who feeds off the souls of children then deposits the remains into Christmasland – a twisted Christmas Village of Manx’s imagination where every day is Christmas day and unhappiness is against the law.
Drawing on her courage and tough-as-nails grit, Vic must strive to defeat Manx and rescue his victims without losing her mind or falling victim to him. The project was created by Jami O’Brien (Fear The Walking Dead, Hell On Wheels) who is serving as the showrunner.
Production of the 10-episode series began this week in Rhode Island with Kari Skogland (The Handmaid’s Tale) directing the first two episodes.
Cummings plays a character named Pippa in The Goldfinch, an adaptation of Donna Tartt’s novel which won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
Directed by John Crowley (Brooklyn), the drama stars Ansel Elgort, Nicole Kidman, Oakes Fegley, Finn Wolfhard, Sarah Paulson, Luke Wilson and Jeffrey Wright.
The plot follows Elgort as Theodore “Theo” Decker, who embarks on an odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption after his mother is killed in a terrorist bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Kidman plays the matriarch of a wealthy Upper East Side family who takes in Theo. Pippa is his former girlfriend who moves to London.
Co-financed by Amazon Studios, the film will be released by Warner Bros in the US in October 2019 and in Oz in December.
The 2016 winner of the Heath Ledger Scholarship, Cummings’ credits include Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Westside, Puberty Blues, Gallipoli and Galore.
