Australian Broadcasting Summit: a chance to rub shoulders with the right people

The secrets of creating compelling content, insights into the commercial TV sector and the rise of digital video are some of the key topics to be discussed at this year’s Australian Broadcasting Summit.

Held over two days, starting tomorrow, the ninth annual summit – split into TV and Radio – will bring together just under 30 speakers and about 250 paying-delegates at Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

Delegates will hear leading industry figures speak on such topics as the impact of 3D, the success of MasterChef, and how to understand, identify and satisfy their desired audiences.

Foxtel CEO Kim Williams is one of the key speakers and will discuss his plans for Foxtel’s future expansion and diversification. This will be the first time Williams or Foxtel have contributed to the event.

Other speakers include BBC Worldwide’s John Smith, FremantleMedia’s Ian Hogg and FetchTV’s Scott Lorson.

Summit organiser and Association and Communication Events managing director Craig MacFarlane said it’s a chance to be seen “rubbing shoulders with the right people”, and said it was one of the primary industry networking opportunities of the year.

The summit will be opened by communications minister Stephen Conroy.

Plans for next year’s 10th anniversary are already underway, and MacFarlane sees no reason for the summit to discontinue its exponential growth.

The Australian Broadcasting Summit will be held on March 2 and 3 at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre.
