Beattie debut to film in NSW

Press release from NSW FTO

The NSW Government has secured another major film production for the State creating more than 200 jobs and generating approximately $60 million in economic activity for NSW.

Premier Nathan Rees today announced that a major new Australian film – “Tomorrow: When the War Began” will be shot in NSW.

Mr Rees said pre-production of the feature film “Tomorrow: When the War Began” will begin this month with filming to start later this year.

“The production will be based at Fox Studios and will film extensively in the Hunter Valley, providing a positive boost to the regional economy,” Mr Rees said.

“This is a big tick for NSW and especially the Hunter region.

“Securing this movie will also ensure that our skilled film crew are kept working in NSW.”

Following the recent NSW Job Summit, the Government announced a new package of screen industry incentives that would ensure NSW was the most attractive destination in Australia for major film projects.

“This policy is already paying off,” Mr Rees said.

“Films like this invest heavily in the local economy and the flow-on effects for local services such as transport, construction and the hotel industry.”

“Tomorrow: When The War Began” is one of a series of seven iconic novels by Australian author John Marsden, so there is also a potential for a series of future films to be made further down the track.

It is being produced by Ambience Entertainment, a division of Omnilab Media which is headquartered in NSW, and will be distributed in Australia by Paramount Pictures.

“The film will mark the directorial debut of Australian Stuart Beattie, who was the screenwriter for “Collateral”, “Australia” and the “Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy,” Mr Rees said.
