Breaker Morant trailer

Directed by Bruce Beresford, Breaker Morant is the 1980 10-time AFI award winning film, based on the real-life story of Lieutenant Harry “Breaker” Morant.

The Oscar-nominated screenplay was adapted from Beresford’s 1978 play Breaker Morant: A Play in Two Acts and details the court martial of three Australian lieutenants accused of executing prisoners as a way of deflecting attention from war crimes committed by their superior officers during the second Boer War.

It stars Edward Woodward, Bryan Brown, Lewis Fitz-Gerald, and Jack Thompson.

Filmed in and around the South Australian town of Burra, the production work was done almost exclusively by Australian companies with the 7 Network, the Australian Film Commission, the South Australian Film Corporation and Pact Productions.

The Aussie classic was re-released on DVD and Blu-ray for its 30th anniversary on October 7.
