Call out for second ADG director’s attachment on Love Child

The Australian Directors Guild (ADG), Playmaker Media and Screen Australia announce the second ADG director’s attachment for television drama on Playmaker's Love Child.

The successful applicant will work with experienced TV drama director Geoff Bennett, who will direct episodes 7 and 8 of the third series.

The Director’s Attachment Scheme (DAS) is an industry incentive for emerging feature film and television drama directors to develop their craft.

Funded by Screen Australia and managed by the ADG, the scheme will provide six director’s attachments in 2015. Participating companies for 2015 are Playmaker Media, FremantleMedia, Screentime, Jonathan M Shiff Productions and Matchbox Pictures.

“We are again partnering with Playmaker on their period drama Love Child. This will be one of six attachments we will run with our participating production partners and Screen Australia,” said ADG CEO Kingston Anderson. “This is a unique opportunity for a new director to enter the TV drama directing world.”

Screen Australia's Head of Production Sally Caplan said, “This scheme is a fantastic opportunity for directors on the rise. It is good to see all partners involved show commitment on advancing new talent. It is an exciting chance for an emerging director to get professional training with an award-winning production and experts.”

Playmaker Media CEO David Maher said, “Playmaker continues its participation in the ADG Director’s Attachment Scheme enabling emerging directors an inside opportunity to experience the process of series television drama. We see this as an important step in furthering their directing careers.”

Applications may be submitted to the ADG from interested directors who have:
• two short fiction drama films publicly screened or
• one short fiction drama film which has screened at an accredited film festival (Sundance, Berlin, Venice, Cannes, Clermont-Ferrand, Busan, Rotterdam, SXSW or Telluride) or
• been a first assistant director on a TV drama series or a feature film.

The applicant will be asked to submit the following to the ADG:
• a resume
• a written reference from an established screen industry practitioner
• up to 100 words on why they want to do the attachment outlining the career benefits
• DVD copies or links of past work
• if an assistant director applies, references from at least two productions they have worked on as a first assistant director.

The successful applicant will receive funding support from Screen Australia and Playmaker Media to work full-time as a director’s attachment on the production. It will require the recipient to either direct a scene or second unit from the episode he or she is working on. The decision is made in conjunction with the supervising director and producer.

The location of the production is Sydney and dates for the attachment are as follows:

Pre-production – Starts June 24
Shoot – From July 13-29
Post-production – Finishes 17 August 17

Applications are now open. The deadline is Wednesday May 13.
