The Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) has opened applications for its ACCESS early career program, with Casting JonBenet and Ukraine is not a Brothel director Kitty Green to be among the mentors.
Now in its fifth year, ACCESS aims to provide career pathways for early career documentary, factual and unscripted filmmakers.
Green joins the previously announced mentor Sara Ramsden, creative director of Love Productions, the company behind The Great British Bakeoff.
“Committed to supporting emerging practitioners, Kitty will bring her knowledge of the global theatrical marketplace and methods for realising bold ideas in an ever-shifting media landscape,” said AIDC director Alice Burgin.
In addition to mentoring sessions during the conference, one participant will be selected for a four-week paid internship with Beach House Pictures in Singapore in 2018.
“At the heart of what we are passionate about at BHP is nurturing the next generation of storytellers and giving them a home within which they can create amazing content,” said Donovan Chan, Creative Director of Beach House Pictures.
“That’s the powerful bond that we have with AIDC that started successfully with ACCESS 2017 and will now grow from strength to strength in 2018. We are excited about the upcoming festival and look forward to working with the next batch of exciting Australian talents.”
Last year’s years recipient of the internship, Charly Ibrahim said the program was a career highlight. “To be learning from the world’s best documentarians, alongside other aspiring creatives, made for the perfect learning experience. I feel like doors really have flung open, waiting for me to take full advantage of each and every opportunity.”
A second ACCESS participant will also receive a one week expenses paid trip to the UK’s Sheffield Doc/Fest.
Applications for AIDC 2018 ACCESS Mentorship Program are open now, and close January 12. Registrations also open for the conference, which will be held March 4 – 7 at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).
