Cine-snaps is a student’s ticket to great film

Press Release

CinéfestOZ, the Western Australian film festival delivering extraordinary new Australian and French films over five days in August, will launch its Cine-Snaps program for South West schools on Thursday, 13 June.

Cine-Snaps will showcase quality Australian and international films, filmmakers and artists to a younger audience, to enhance their appreciation and understanding of the film industry.

Over 1000 primary and secondary students from Bunbury to Augusta will experience the Cine-Snaps Schools Program over the Festival week (21st-25th August 2013).

CinéfestOZ Festival Manager Malinda Nixon says Cine-Snaps offers South West students extraordinary opportunities through a program of carefully selected film, visiting filmmakers, interactive film workshops and an exciting new short film competition for 13-18 year olds.

“Cine-Snaps is an important feature of the CinéfestOZ film festival. It provides affordable access for students to attend screenings and talk to experts about working in the industry and the filmmaking process. The short film competition provides a platform for budding filmmakers to showcase their talents,” she said.

Over twenty South West schools are expected to take part in Cine-Snaps, with CinéfestOZ choosing age-appropriate Australian films and providing (where applicable) study guides for in-class preparation.

Rio Tinto has contributed in-kind and financial support to CinefestOZ since 2010, with a specific focus as CinéfestOZ Schools’ Partner since 2012, enabling rapid expansion and development of the Cine-Snaps Schools Program.

“Cine-Snaps is a wonderful community initiative. It benefits hundreds of regional school children, with flow-on benefits to education professionals and young people in the wider South West region,” says Trisha Comerford, Manager, Rio Tinto Community Investment.

ATCO Gas has been confirmed as a new Associate Partner of the Schools Program and will also be represented on the evening.

CinéfestOZ officially launches Cine-Snaps Thursday, 13 June at a function for over 100 guests at Art Geo, Busselton. Guests will include the education sector, local government, associated businesses, the CinéfestOZ Board and volunteers.

Expression of Interest Registration forms have been distributed to South West schools. Interested persons are invited to call Caroline on 0418 959 948 for further information.
