Citizen Jia Li trailer

Fresh from its world premiere at the Phoenix Comicon film festival in the US, Citizen Jia Li returns home to Melbourne.

Starring Claudia Teh, Chris Pang (Tomorrow, Where The War Began) and Susanna Quan (Red Water Red), the film – by writer/director/producer Sky Crompton – is a compelling and family-friendly film that crosses age and cultural boundaries.

Jia Li loses both her job and home in the one day, and over three days she will struggle against fears and enemies to find her identity. She is supported by Daisy, a half-Chinese/ half-Japanese Ê»Harajukuʼ girl, who is coming to terms with her own mixed parentage. Jiaʼs triad ex, Kong, pursues her to get her back, to save face, and searches Melbourne for her – maybe out of genuine love.

The film makes its Australian premiere at the 2011 Melbourne Underground Film Festival, Memo, 88 Acland St, St Kilda, on August 22, 7pm. There will also be a Q&A with the director and cast of the film, to discuss making Asian films in Melbourne.

Tickets are available on the door or you can pre-book.
