Comedian Shane Bourne to host this year’s Logies

Press release from The Lantern Group

The 2011 TV WEEK Logie Awards has confirmed one of Australia’s best-known and most respected actors, Shane Bourne, as its host for this year’s star-studded ceremony.

Shane, who’s been entertaining film, television and theatre audiences for many years, promises to deliver what he does best when he takes to the stage at the 53rd Annual TV WEEK Logie Awards on Sunday, May 1 at Melbourne’s Crown Entertainment Complex.

A two-time AFI Award winner, Shane was also nominated for the Most Outstanding Actor Logie in 2003 for his leading role in medical drama MDA. In addition, Shane has gained further acclaim for hosting Thank God You’re Here and playing Stanley Wolfe in City Homicide.

He has also appeared on television as a variety and talk show regular over the years.

“I am genuinely thrilled to be involved in TV’s night of nights.” Shane says of landing the Logies hosting gig. “It’s an honour to be following in the footsteps of such television luminaries as Bert Newton et al – and the timing couldn’t be better.

"I’ve always enjoyed myself immensely at the Logies, and since the chances of a nomination coming my way this year look pretty slim, I figure it’s not a bad way of making sure I score an invitation.”

TV WEEK editor Emma Nolan reveals she’s thrilled to have Shane on board, and says the competition is really heating up this year. “We have seen a 350 per cent increase in voting numbers, with surprising results,” she says.

"The gap between some nominees is very close, and we can’t wait to reveal the full list in the issue of TV WEEK on sale April 4.”

The 2011 TV WEEK Logie Awards include gongs for the Most Popular and Most Outstanding Actor and Actress, the Most Popular TV Presenter, Most Popular New Talent (male and female) and Most Popular Drama Series, plus the coveted Gold Logie for the Most Popular Personality on TV.

All the nominees will be revealed on Sunday, April 3 at The Green Room at Quay, Overseas Passenger Terminal, The Rocks, Sydney.

The nominees will be published in TV WEEK magazine on sale April 4, 2011. Nominees for the Most Popular and peer-voted Most Outstanding awards will be announced then, including the six Most Popular personalities, with the final round of voting commencing for the prestigious Gold Logie award.

The winners will be announced at the TV WEEK Logie Awards on Sunday, May 1 at Melbourne’s Crown Entertainment Complex, where the stars will hit the red carpet for a night of glamour and world-class entertainment.

TV WEEK readers have the chance to win a trip to Melbourne to attend the big event in May 2011 and be treated like an A-list celebrity. By including the codeword found inside TV WEEK magazine when they vote, readers will go into the draw to win: return flights to Melbourne; luxury accommodation; hair and make-up styling; a walk down the red carpet with the industry’s best and brightest; plus a gift bag normally reserved for nominees and presenters.
