FedFest all set to unfold

‘Numurkah’ – Things turn bad for two country boys as they attempt an insurance scam; ‘The Funk’ – Jack woke up in a funk one day.

No one really knows how it started; ‘Lone Rider’ – The lengths to which one man will go to fulfill his celluloid dream; ‘For Doris’ – A look into the underworld of competitive Tropical Fish breeding; and ‘The Communicator’ – Regret has got to be the most unfulfilling of all emotions.

Just a few of the 15 extraordinary short films that make up the finalist program of ‘FedFest 2009’

The first festival of it’s kind to be held in Federation Square, the arts and cultural centre of Melbourne, FedFest short film festival will screen the freshest, most compelling and entertaining short films produced in recent years.

The festival will feature competing short films crossing all genres and platforms from the very best national filmmakers working today with over $30,000 in industry prizes and cash awarded to the best 3 films as determined by an esteemed panel of film luminaries.

Judges include Mandy Walker (Cinematographer on Baz Luhrmann’s epic feature film Australia); Greg McLean (Director of Wolf Creek & Rogue); James Hewison & Nick Batzias of Madman Entertainment and Jason Byrne (Producer Little Deaths, One Perfect Day), Beth Fry (Producer) and Lizette Atkins (Producer Rock n Roll Nerd, Blow).
Additionally, an audience vote held on festival day will decide an award for Best Short Film.

Blending seamlessly from the daytime events of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival the fun and frivolity kicks off at 5pm in a vibrant carnival style atmosphere with roving performance by ‘FAD’ Productions, stilt walking by Empyrean, Monash School of fire twirling and live drumming by Funk Del Mundo. On the decks spinning some cool tunes will be some of Melbourne’s most prominent DJ’s Jen Tutty & Emma Peel.
