FetchTV launches YouTube service

FetchTV has become the first IPTV platform in Australia to allow their customers to watch their favourite YouTube videos in full screen from the comfort of their living rooms.

It continues a trend of convergence across the industry as audiences increasingly consume screen content across multiple platforms and devices. The government is currently conducting a convergence review to assess the impact on Australia's communications and media regulation.

The FetchTV YouTube service, which is now live, has been optimised for television screens and will offer up to 720p high definition video quality. Users’ remote controls will take the place of keyboards and mouses, making the application easy to navigate and giving quick access to YouTube search.

“The only thing better than the YouTube on your PC, is the YouTube experience enjoyed on your big screen,” said CEO of FetchTV, Scott Lorson, via e-mail.

The subscription FetchTV service is offered through ISPs such as iiNet and Internode, with Optus to follow later this year.

Other rival IPTV providers include Apple TV and the Telstra T-Box.
