Filming begins on ABC’s Outland

Press release from ABC

It’s all systems go as filming starts on Outland, ABC1’s new six –part comedy series. Produced by Princess Pictures (Summer Heights High and John Safran’s Race Relations), Outland orbits around a gay science-fiction fan club and the lives, loves and never-ending dramas of its members.

Rae (Christine Anu), Toby (Ben Gerrard), Andy (Paul Ireland), Fab (Adam Richard) and Max (Toby Truslove) are openly gay and closeted geeks. Outland is a series about belonging, no matter who you are, and how everyone searches to find a place to fit in.

Outland…where your best friends sometimes seem like aliens and close encounters are what you wish for. Outland will be filmed on location in Melbourne over the next six weeks and will air on ABC1 in 2011.

ABC’s Head of Comedy, Debbie Lee says, “We are delighted to be collaborating again with Princess Pictures on another new and weirdly wonderful comedy and welcome the opportunity to work with the creative talents of writers John Richards and Adam Richard and the brilliant and funny Outland cast.’

“Princess Pictures is proud that closeted science fiction fans will finally have a voice and that a full family of gay Australian characters can go where they never ventured before – primetime television,” says producer Laura Waters.
