Miranda Tapsell.

British actor Gwilym Lee, who has appeared in Bohemian Rhapsody, Jamestown and The Hollow Crown, will star opposite Miranda Tapsell in the Wayne Blair-directed Top End Wedding.

The film, due to begin production in Adelaide and the Northern Territory later this month, was co-written by Tapsell and Joshua Tyler (Plonk), and is produced by Goalpost Pictures’ Rosemary Blight and Kylie du Fresne, and Kojo’s Kate Croser.

Tapsell will play successful Sydney lawyer Lauren and Lee her finacee Ned, who have just 10 days to find Lauren’s mother who has gone AWOL somewhere in the Northern Territory, reunite her parents and pull off their dream Top End Wedding.

Joining the actors are an ensemble cast including Kerry Fox (Bright Star, Cloud Street), Ursula Yovich (The Code, Around The Block, Australia), Shari Sebbens (Thor: Ragnarok, The Sapphires, Redfern Now), Huw Higginson (Janet King, A Place To Call Home, The Bill) and Elaine Crombie (Top of The Lake, Redfern Now, Black Comedy).

Blair said: I’ve enjoyed career highlights collaborating with Goalpost and couldn’t be prouder to be at the helm of this love letter to the Northern Territory.  With an exceptional script balancing humour with heritage, we are excited to welcome the cast and crew to our backyard, and embark on this journey to deliver a rollicking good time for a worldwide audience.”

The film is a reunion of sorts for producers Blight and du Fresne, director Blair, Tapsell and Sebbens, who all worked on The Sapphires.

Shooting locations will include Adelaide, the Tiwi Islands, Kakadu, Katherine and Darwin. Post will be completed in South Australia.

eOne will release the film Australia and New Zealand, while  Berlin-based Films Boutique is handling international sales.
