Head of TV’s hit series, Downton Abbey, to speak at SPAA conference

Gareth Neame, Managing Director UK, NBCUniversal International TV Production will be the keynote speaker at the morning plenary session Tuesday 15 November.

Neame was previously the Managing Director of Carnival Films, the production company responsible for Downton Abbey. Carnival, a leading British independent production company was owned by Neame and Southern Star before being sold to NBCUniversal in 2008 to be the cornerstone of NBCU’s new international TV division.

Neame’s remit now includes overseeing all UK television production initiatives in Drama, Comedy and Entertainment. He is tasked with increasing NBCUniversal’s presence in the UK, building on the significant success of Carnival.

Prior to joining Carnival Films, Neame was Head of Drama Commissioning at the BBC and was instrumental in the significant growth in independent production, responsible for development and production of a range of innovative, award-winning and popular shows such as Spooks, State of Play, Bodies, Outlaws, Hustle, New Tricks, Tipping the Velvet and Clocking Off.
