I Love You Too passes $1.7m

Peter Helliar's romantic comedy I Love You Too has passed $1.7 million in its second week at cinemas.

The film took just over $538,000 in its second week across 228 screens, giving it a screen average of $2,363. It posted an opening weekend of just over $874,000.

The film stars Brendan Cowell as the emotionally-stunted Jim and tells the story of his faltering relationship with Alice (Yvonne Strahovski). It also stars TV comedian Peter Helliar, who also wrote the script. The film was produced by Princess Pictures' Laura Waters and Yael Bergman.

The Paramount-distributed Beneath Hill 60 added a further $104,660 over the weekend – a drop of 54 per cent – across 105 screens. It has now taken more than $2.8 million.

Among new local releases, Gillian Armstrong's documentary Love, Lust & Lies took $20,674 across five screens giving it a healthy screen average of $4,135.

Meanwhile, John Jarratt's $3.5 million thriller Savages Crossing grossed $4,432 across the same number, giving it a less spectacular screen average of $886. The film is being toured around the country by Jarratt, who wrote the film with wife Cody Jarrett through their production company Winnah Films.

Black comedy Accidents Happen added a further $3,213 ($292 screen average) in its fourth week while drama Playing for Charlie grossed $1,257 on a single screen in its second week.
