Ian Robertson appointed Film Victoria president

Corporate and media lawyer, Ian Robertson has been appointed as the new President of Film Victoria.

Robertson, who has worked in and for the media and entertainment industries for more than 30 years, is currently Deputy Chair of Screen Australia and Director of Beyond International Limited.

In a statement, Robertson said Film Victoria's key role is to assist the local screen industry in achieving national and international success.

“There is fantastic talent in Victoria in all aspects of television, feature films and digital games, including world class producers, directors, writers, actors and visual effects producers," he said.

Earlier this year, it was revealed by the Herald Sun that Film Victoria spent more than $45,000 on a farewell party for former chief executive, Sandra Sdraulig. The story was broken in June and Sdraulig's replacement has yet to be named.

In his statement, Robertson said it was the organisation's duty to assist the Victorian screen industry, while ensuring that taxpayers' money is spent responsibly.

Robertson replaces former President John Howie, whose term ended on August 31. He will serve on the Film Victoria board alongside recently appointed Daryl Talbot, following the departure of Ana Kokkinos and Michael Lynch.

A third appointment is expected to be announced shortly.
