Kidman, Jackman, Watts receive Golden Globe nominations

The Golden Globes 2013 nomination list has recently been announced with three Australian actors receiving a total of four nominations.

Well known for his performance in Australia, the X-Men series and The Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is nominated for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his performance in the 2012 musical drama Les Misérables.

Adapted from Victor Hugo’s classic and the 1985 musical of the same name, the film is also nominated for the Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical category. Jackman plays the leading role Jean Valjean in the film. This is his second Golden Globe nomination, after being missing out in the 2002 ceremony for the romantic comedy Kate & Leopold.

Naomi Watts was nominated for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, for her performance in the disaster drama The Impossible, where Watts worked with Ewan McGregor in telling the true story that happened in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

Veteran actress Nicole Kidman scored two nominations this year, showing an ability to play versatile roles. Kidman is nominated for the Best Performance in a Supporting Role for her daring turn in The Paperboy where she plays an ill-mannered blonde Charlotte Bless, for which she is also surprisingly nominated the best supporting actress in the Screen Actors Guild. Another category that Kidman is nominated for is Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for television for her portrayal of the war correspondent in HBO’s Hemingway & Gellhorn.

Kidman’s husband Keith Urban was also nominated for Best Original Song – Motion Picture for his song with Monty Powell, “For You” which featured in the film Act of Valor.

The 70th annual Golden Globes ceremony will be held on January 13th with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as the hosts.
