Mao’s Last Dancer wins US award

Ahead of its August 20 release by Samuel Goldwyn Films in the US, MAO’S LAST DANCER has received another award at a major North American film festival – the Audience Award at the Maine International Film Festival.

Directed by Academy Award nominee Bruce Beresford (DRIVING MISS DAISY), MAO’S LAST DANCER was produced by Academy Award nominee Jane Scott (SHINE) from a screenplay by Academy Award nominee Jan Sardi (SHINE, THE NOTEBOOK).

It was runner up to PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL “PUSH” BY SAPPHIRE for the Audience Award at the 2009 Toronto Film Festival, winner of the Audience Award at the 2009 Sao Paulo Film Festival in Brazil and first runner up in the 2010 Seattle Film Festival audience awards for Best Film . 

MAO’S LAST DANCER, the highest grossing Australian film at the box office in Australia in 2009, also won the News Limited Reader’s Choice Award at the 2009 AFI Awards.

MAO’S LAST DANCER is currently in release in Canada and Israel, with Japan, Germany and other major territories to follow throughout 2010.
