WildBear Entertainment and Bursty Company’s Runn: The Nedd Brockmann Story will land on Netflix next month after being acquired by the streamer for its Australia and New Zealand catalogue.
Directed by Serge Ou, the one-hour documentary follows Nedd Brockmann, an electrician turned national hero, who embarked on a 4000km run across Australia from Perth’s Cottesloe Beach to Sydney’s Bondi Beach to raise money for the homeless in 2022.
He would go on to raise $2.5 million for homelessness charity, leading him to establish ‘Nedd’s Kickstart Scholarship’, a program aimed at offering employment, direct cash transfers, and ongoing support including housing and financial counselling to people at risk of homelessness.
Runn: The Nedd Brockmann Story, produced by William Ward and executive produced by Michael Tear, was part of Fred Media/Radar’s MIPCOM 2024 slate, after premiering on Fox Sports in July.
Ou was recognised for his work on the film at last year’s Australian Directors’ Guild Awards, awarded Best Direction of a Documentary Series Episode or One-Off.
Fred Media head of sales Jimmy Elkington described the one-hour documentary as “truly memorable”, adding it deserved “to be seen by as many people as possible”.
“The film paints a heartfelt and compelling picture of one man’s quest to make a difference, weaving elements of humour, determination, and profound humanity into its narrative,” he said.
“Set against the backdrop of the vast expanse of the Australian landscape, it succeeds in being an uplifting, entertaining, and moving watch, showing how an individual’s unwavering resolve can ignite a movement and bring about transformative change. We look forward to seeing the response on Netflix, confident that RUNN will appeal to a broad audience.”
Netflix Australia and New Zealand subscribers can stream Runn: The Nedd Brockmann Story from February 10.
