Rachel Griffiths signs on for Nowhere Boys

PRESS RELEASE

Golden Globe Award-winning actress Rachel Griffiths (Paper Giants: Magazine Wars, Six Feet Under, Brothers & Sisters) will make her television directorial debut on the second series of ABC3's hit drama Nowhere Boys.

Filming of the second series has begun in Melbourne and Rachel will direct the third block of episodes in late August.

"Even though this is her first TV directing job, Rachel brings a wealth of experience as an actor which I think will be an invaluable asset to our show,” says series creator Tony Ayres, Matchbox Pictures. “She is articulate and passionate about directing, and Matchbox is thrilled to continue our working relationship with her, this time behind the camera."

Deirdre Brennan, ABC TV Controller of Children's Television, said: "We're delighted that Rachel has chosen Nowhere Boys to make her TV directorial debut and that the second series has begun filming. Our audience is eagerly waiting to see how the story of Andy, Felix, Jake and Sam continues."

Having found their way home, the Nowhere Boys – Jake (Matt Testro), Sam (Rahart Adams), Andy (Joel Lok) and Felix (Dougie Baldwin) – soon discover that the adventure hasn't stopped just because they're back and that they aren't the only ones who crossed through the portal into this universe.

Nowhere Boys Series 2 is produced by Matchbox Pictures for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation with the assistance of Film Victoria. The series is being sold internationally by NBCUniversal which also has an ownership stake in Matchbox Pictures. The Australian Children’s Television Foundation will undertake distribution in Australia/New Zealand. The series is created and executive produced by Tony Ayres (Cut Snake, The Slap, The Home Song Stories), produced by Beth Frey (Next Stop Hollywood, Dr Sarmast’s Music School) and executive produced by Michael McMahon (Next Stop Hollywood, The Slap).

The first series of Nowhere Boys has been an outstanding success with audiences. It has also been awarded Best Children's Television Series at the AACTA Awards 2014, Most Outstanding Children's Program at the 2014 TV Week Logie Awards, and the Youth Jury Prize at the Prix Jeunesse International 2014.

Series two of Nowhere Boys is set to screen in November this year.
