Rising Pictures announces short film comp and date of The Day Hollywood Died

Press release from Rising Pictures

Rising Pictures today announced the inaugural PREMIERE Short Film Competition 2012. The competition aims to get entertaining, insightful and original short films in front of audiences and industry professionals. This better positions filmmakers to build their careers in the industry.

The three winning films will be screened at the World Premiere of Rising Pictures' own THE DAY HOLLYWOOD DIED in Sydney on May 4, in front of a paying audience and industry peers. The filmmakers will also collect Red Carpet Premiere Tickets and gain Exclusive Afterparty Access. Rising Pictures hopes that this will allow the filmmakers to enjoy the thrill of a huge audience watching their film and then to meet and network with those in the industry.

The guidelines have been broadened to ensure that films of all genres, subject-matter and budget are included. This also allows short films entered into previous competitions to enter, wonderfully cinematographed short documentaries through to blood-curling thrillers, as well as subject matter both serious and in jest.

The competition closes at 11.59pm on 21 April 2012. There are no key words, images or themes that need to be adhered with. The mission statement is simple: entertain with insight and originality. The Early Bird entrance fee is $30 for films submitted before 3 April 2012. Entries after this date are $40.

A panel consisting of industry professionals (names to be announced) will assess the entries and winning entries will be notified by 24 April 2012. Whilst the guidelines are broad, the judges recommend a length no longer than 10 minutes and no shorter than 1. But exceptions will always be made for creative brilliance!

The three winning entries will also be provided with a DCP (Digital Cinema Package) of their film, allowing them to screen the film in theatres anywhere in the world where the digital standard is recognized (conditions apply).

The following prizes are available:
Grand Jury Prize for Best Film: $500
Runner Up: $250
Rising Award for Most Original Film: $100

All prizes include Red Carpet Premiere Tickets and Complimentary Tickets to the Exclusive Afterparty (including drinks and food).

Applicants from around the world are encouraged to apply. Films in languages other than english should include english subtitles.

As an incentive for those wishing to enter more than one film, Rising Pictures is offering the following rates:

First Film: $30 Entry Fee
Second Film: $15 Entry Fee
Third Film: $7.50 Entry Fee
Fourth Film: Free!

A maximum of four films can be submitted by any one filmmaker.

The winners will be contacted by 27 April 2012. The Premiere and screening of the films will be held on 4 May 2012 at Hoyts EQ at Fox Studios beginning at 6pm. The event will mark the first time general audiences have the opportunity to see THE DAY HOLLYWOOD DIED after it previews at the European Independent Film Festival 2012 as part of the Official Selection.

The directorial debut of Ronnie S. Riskalla treats audiences to a story by K.G. Donovan that follows a survivor of a heist gone wrong who is forced to relive memories in an effort to remember who he or she is.
