Screen NSW is setting out to unearth filmmaking talent from regional NSW.
A partnership between ABC Regional and Screen NSW, SEED: Regional Shorts offers ten creative teams grants of up to $4,000 each to create a short-form production.
Teams will be supported by a Screen NSW Development and Production executive and local ABC Regional producers will offer feedback on projects.
According to an ABC-Screen NSW joint statement, ABC Regional facilities and equipment will be made available to the filmmakers, whose projects will screen on ABC online platforms next year.
“This is an incredible opportunity for talented, aspiring screen creatives from regional NSW to explore their ideas and develop their capabilities,” said NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts Troy Grant. "SEED gives access to finance, expertise and audiences, access which can often be challenging for emerging filmmakers outside the city."
Director of ABC Regional Fiona Reynolds said: “ABC Regional is thrilled to partner with Screen NSW on the SEED: Regional Shorts initiative, reaching out to emerging filmmakers in regional NSW to uncover different stories and perspectives. It’s a great opportunity for our ABC teams to mentor young filmmakers in the regions and I can’t wait to see the content created through this collaboration.”
SEED is designed for "early career creatives", aged over 18, based in regional NSW. Applicants with feature film or television credits in their elected role are not eligible. There must be at least one woman in a key creative role.
Narrative short film projects of up to 10 minutes duration (drama, documentary, animation and experimental projects) for online or small screen delivery (webisode series, transmedia, interactive, online documentary and mobile/tablet content) will be considered.
Applications are open from October 27 2016 until January 8 2017.
