Screen NSW makes board appointments

Screen industry experts Sue Murray and Darren Dale have scored spots on the board of Screen NSW, while Geoffrey Atherden has been reappointed.

NSW Minister for the Arts, Virginia Judge said the new members will be a boost for the State's film and television industry.

“These appointments will strengthen the board of Screen NSW to support the local film and television industry,” Ms Judge said in a statement.

“Sue Murray commands tremendous respect in the film industry for her expertise in marketing, distribution and production. Darren Dale brings a wealth of production experience in the drama and factual, film and television sectors. Geoffrey Atherden will continue to contribute his expertise as a writer and advocate for the creative sector.”

Murray has been executive producer of international production company Fandango Films for the past ten years. Its recent projects include Ten Canoes, Alexandra’s Project and Tom White.

Producer Dale kicked off his career with SBS Television and, since 2001, has been company director of Blackfella Films which produced the First Australians series on SBS. It was watched by over 2.3 million viewers when it aired in 2008.

Atherden is best known for the award-winning comedy series Mother and Son. He is also a member of the Order of Australia and received the Richard Lane award for service to the Australian Writer’s Guild.

The board appointments run from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2013,

The Screen NSW board has seven members nominated by the Minister and appointed by the Governor, and the chairperson is a member appointed from outside the film and television industry. Today’s announcement follows the recent appointment of Helen Wright as chairperson.
