Screen QLD’s PDV grant attracts PlayStation Originals series Powers

Screen Queensland's Post, Digital and Visual Effects Attraction Grant has lured US online series Powers to the state to complete visual effects work for its second series.

Powers is the PlayStation Network's first original scripted program.

"We are thrilled to be opening our virtual doors to another US production with the PlayStation Originals series, Powers, to commence its visual effects and post production work", said SQ CEO Tracey Vieira.

"This is the third international production we have attracted to Queensland via our PDV incentive since its introduction in 2015, which means more growth for our post and visual effects sector and individual skillsets of our workforce".

"In the last 12 months we have welcomed feature film The Age of Adaline produced by Lakeshore Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, and US television series Underground from Sony Pictures Television and Tribune Studios, to Queensland".

"All of these projects have been attracted from a competitive process with other interstate and international locations vying for their business. In each case, Queensland has come up as the number one choice for these US producers".

Powers has been adapted from the original comic series by Michael Avon Oeming and Brian Michael Bendis, and follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker (District 9's Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as “Powers.”

"We will continue to work hard to maintain focus on Queensland as offering the very best in human and technical resources in the PDV space as well as key creatives and crew", said Vieira.

"This will allow our screen industry to continue to innovate and grow which in turn leads to more and more projects like Powers coming to Queensland".

The show is produced by Jinxworld and Circle of Confusion in association with Sony Pictures Television. Remi Aubuchon, Brian Michael Bendis, Michael Avon Oeming and David Engel are executive producers.
