See-Saw Films appoints new head of UK production

Nicky Earnshaw.

Film4 executive Nicky Earnshaw has joined Iain Canning and Emile Sherman’s See-Saw Films as head of film and TV production in the UK.

Earnshaw takes over from Amy Jackson, who is moving into independent producing and will continue to collaborate with the company on various projects.

As acting head of production at Film4 she oversaw such titles as Disobedience, Beast and I Am Not a Witch.

As well as overseeing See-Saw’s expanding film and TV slate developed and produced out of the UK office she will take charge of productions greenlit through the recently announced first-look deal with New Regency.

The UK TV slate includes The North Water, a five-part thriller to be written and directed by Andrew Haigh (45 Years), adapted from the novel by Ian McGuire. Commissioned by BBC2 and set in the 1850s, the drama follows Patrick Sumner, a disgraced ex-army surgeon who signs up as ship’s doctor on a whaling expedition to the Arctic. On board he meets Henry Drax, a harpooner and brutish killer.

Film4 recently backed See-Saw’s upcoming Widows, directed by Steve McQueen, Garth Davis Mary Magdalene and John Cameron Mitchell’s How to Talk to Girls at Parties.

Earnshaw will report to Canning and Sherman and chief operating officer for TV Hakan Kousetta. She will also collaborate with head of TV Jamie Laurenson, head of commercial affairs, film, Simon Gillis, and LA based VP, creative affairs, Negin Salmasi.

Canning and Sherman said, “Nicky is undeniably one of the most experienced and respected production executives in the business with extensive industry knowledge particularly in the UK and excellent relationships with globally renowned filmmakers and talent. We are excited to have her join our team and have no doubt she will be an extraordinary asset to our growing film and television business.”
