Mess Hall star turned film composer Jed Kurzel has signed a deal with Chester Music/G.Schirmer Australia, representing his publishing rights for all projects.

Kurzel broke out by doing the score for his brother Justin's debut feature Snowtown. He's since composed the music for Slow West, The Babadook, Son of A Gun, All This Mayhem, and Benedict Andrews' upcoming Una, starring Ben Mendelsohn and set to premiere at TIFF next month.

Andrews and the Kurzels go way back, with Justin designing some of the productions directed by Andrews when he was a resident director at the Sydney Theatre Company.

Jed Kurzel is currently based in London, where he worked on the score for his brother's Macbeth and is currently scoring his first studio film, Assassin's Creed: Time Out Of Mind, again directed by Justin and starring Michael Fassbender.

“We first met Jed when he was scoring the film Slow West and he not only wrote a beautiful score, but was a joy to work with," said Music Sales' Lucy Bright.

"He comes from a band background and has a very fresh approach to composing for picture; each project quite distinct and with a voice which sets him apart from many in the field.”

Music Sales Group is one of the largest independent music publishing companies in the world, run out of the UK and with offices in the USA, Denmark, France, Germany, Spain, Japan, Hong Kong and Australia.

Other composers on their books include Michael Nyman (The Piano, Gattaca), Philip Glass (The Truman Show, No Reservations) and Dustin O’Halloran (Transparent, Garth Davis' upcoming Lion).
