Solid State gets Golden Trailer noms

Press release from Solid State

The Solid State are nominated for Best Film Festival Trailer in New York’s prestigious Golden Trailer Awards, which recognise the world’s best feature film trailers and advertisements.

“We’ve had so much positive feedback about the trailers this year and they’ve only just begun to air,” said Sydney Film Festival Marketing Manager Carmel England. “It’s become a real talking point for the 2009 Film Festival,” she said.

The Sydney-based creative agency/production company also received Golden Trailer nominations for Best Trailer – No Movie (Divine Shadows) and Most Original Poster ($9.99).

The Solid State wrote, directed and produced two TVCs/cinema trailers for the 2009 Sydney Film Festival, working with D.O.P. David Knight and Zig Zag Lane Studios.

"This was a great chance to use comedy to reposition the Sydney Film Festival as a more accessible event. Our team did a brilliant job and it is fantastic to see the work recognised on an international stage,” The Solid State Company Director Danny Lachevre said.

"We’ve been working across film campaigns for years and enjoyed translating our passion for storytelling to the Festival spots," adds fellow Company Director Walter Bienz. The Solid State also produced the Sydney Film Festival showreel to be screened at the Opening Night Gala at The State Theatre on Wednesday, June 3.

The Solid State is well known for theatrical film marketing campaigns, but the team also creates pre-production sales promos and posters for film markets such as Cannes and Berlin. The Solid State’s pre-sales promo for award-winning Australian director Husein Alicajic’s debut feature, Divine Shadows was produced at script stage and earned the Best Trailer – No Movie Golden Trailer nomination.

"The Divine Shadows trailer has been an incredible success story in getting the film up, and has really helped to communicate the tone and vision of the script in a tangible way, both from a story and marketing perspective,” Husein said.

“As a result, we’ve secured financing and had a major Hollywood actor become attached,” Husein continued. “In both instances, they have said the trailer played a big part in getting them to come on board. It helps people put their trust in you as a filmmaker, and both the producers and I are thrilled with the nomination.”

Divine Shadows is now in pre-production in the United States.

The Solid State rose to the challenge of creating a theatrical poster with an aesthetic independent of the film for new stop-motion animation feature $9.99, subsequently receiving the Most Original Poster nomination.

“What Solid State achieved was fantastic, a poster which captured the tone and magic of the film yet stood on its own as a really strong, original concept,” said Lisa Garner, Icon Distribution Marketing Director.
