SPAA Welcomes Maddock to Chair

‘SPAA welcomes the appointment of Lyn Maddock as Interim Chief Executive Officer of Screen Australia, the Government’s new film support agency’, said Geoff Brown, Executive Director of SPAA. ‘Lyn is consultative, knows the industry and understands the complexity of the issues and challenges our sector is facing.

The Hon Peter Garrett MP, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts made the announcement yesterday following the passage of legislation in both Houses of the Australian Parliament last week. Screen Australia will begin full operations on July 1 2008.

‘SPAA has worked with Lyn on a range of issues during her time at ABA and more recently in her role as deputy Chair of ACMA. Her wealth of public policy knowledge and corporate history, while I acknowledge a loss for ACMA, is a great asset for Screen Australia’.

The timing of this announcement is also helpful. As requested by SPAA, the government has made the appointment on the passage Screen Australia legislation. Without a Chair no concrete decisions on the shape of the agency could be made. Given the massive changes the industry is currently working through, minimising uncertainty and any industry hiatus is critical.

‘SPAA looks forward to working with Lyn Maddock and the new board into the future’.
